Yes software is the reason Yahoo runs…Yahoo runs because of the millions of lines of complicated code written by the developers….But of course software needs hardware to run 
In ur iphone,whenever u press CALL button,its the software which makes the phone call ur loved ones…
The processor in ur phone makes use of the lines of programs to execute the command you gave to the phone…
