Have you read this about science and tech employment? “5 Geekiest cities in America”
#5 – Durham, N.C.
15.5% of workforce
41,560 workers employed
The Raleigh-Durham-Cary area, otherwise known as the Research Triangle, hosts Duke University and the third-highest percentage of adults with at least a bachelor’s degree.

#4 – Huntsville, AL
16.2% of workforce
32,630 workers employed
NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville has been at the forefront of the nation’s space exploration mission for five decades.

#3 – Framingham, MA
16.6% of workforce
25,940 workers employed
In West Framingham, Route 9 runs down the dividing line between the Framingham Industrial Park on the north side of Route 9 and the Framingham Technology Park on the south side. These parks boast the corporate headquarters of Bose and Staples, as well as a Genzyme research center and Capital One offices. In the picture above, Amar G. Bose, Chairman of the Board and Technical Director of Bose Corporation, foreground, watches a demonstration of a Bose suspension system for automobiles in the parking lot of his company.

#2 – Boulder, CO
17.4% of workforce
28,010 workers employed
Boulder is best known for baking its brains. The city boasts among the nation’s most indulgent annual celebrations of international weed smoking day on April 20. Fortunately, Boulder has a more than ample supply of brains to bake, with a large state university campus, numerous scientific institutes and a strong tech sector.

#1 – San Jose, CA
18.2% of workforce
165,400 workers employed
It’s not a surprise that San Jose would top the list, standing at the epicenter of Silicon Valley.

It depends on the programs. It seems silly to assume they all require an equal amount of effort.

But I am feeling a little silly, I admit.

what’s in electric power system analysis and control?

Question by Dee M: what’s in electric power system analysis and control?
I will be having a written examination and an interview later about electric power system analysis and control. Could you help me on this?

Best answer:

Answer by mark p
Well, it’s a big field. I’m afraid that if you’re going for an interview, and you don’t know much about the subject, you might be in trouble.

Here’s a little basic info that may help you search the web for more info:

Electric Power systems are divided into 3 main branches: Generation, Transmission, and Distribution. (There is a 4th branch, speculation, that was created through deregulation, and so far has mainly allowed companies like Enron to steal massive amounts of money from the ratepayers).

Generation should be obvious (power plants). Transmission moves the power over long distances (at very high voltages) from the power plants to substations scattered all around. Distribution gets the power from the substations to homes and businesses, and is the “last mile” of the power system.

The analysis starts with measurement. At many points throughout the system, basic measurements like Volts, Amps, Watts, Vars, Volt-Amps, and Power Factor are measured and sent back to a control center (a “Master-Station”).
The system also has numerous switches and breakers that allow power to be turned on or off, (and, in the case of breakers, will automatically open if there is a fault, just like the circuit-breakers in your fuse-box). There are also status inputs (to indicate the state of breakers, and other “binary” inputs). “Controls” are used to close and open switches and breakers; these are basically binary outputs.

Power-system analysis can be very complicated. It basically needs to a) make sure there is enough power available to supply what’s needed, b) make sure the transmission system can carry the power to the appropriate places, c) detect problems (downed lines, instabilities, voltage sag, under-frequency, etc) and of course, d) measure how much power was used for billing purposes!

That’s a few tid-bits, but you’re going to have to do a fair amount of research to be anything like fluent on the topic!

when i try to edit a css (website template) i always have troubles. like what i mean is that it only shows up as the entire html code for the website and when i try to switch it to view it wont work. it kind of annoys me because i paid good money for that program and i dont want it to be wasted cash.

In Dreamweaver, next to the file name, there should also be a CSS file right next to it.

You can also just use CSS properties to make the changes.

Go into your printer settings and make it “shared” on computer a. then on computer b go to add a printer and search on network. you should see it listed and add it as a printer.

How much room does a computer monitor need along its sides?

Question by whabtbob: How much room does a computer monitor need along its sides?
My mom wants a new monitor with as large a viewing area as possible. Her desk has an area to accommodate a monitor which is just under 20.5 inches wide. She has her eye on a monitor which is exactly 20.28 inches in width. There is ample room on top and the back is open.

Would having barely any room along its sides create a potential problem with airflow, heat, or functionality of the monitor? If so, how much room along each side would you recommend?

Thanks for any suggestions you can offer.

My personal guess is it would be ok. LCD monitors don’t get that hot and the sides are least important when it comes to ventilation.

When there are any buttons on the side it may be very hard to operate them though so check this.

I would just download the manual of the monitor you have in mind and look at the placement/installation instructions. If not specifically mentioned that a certain space must be left open at the sides i think this should be no problem. Also check wether the sides have any buttons or connection-ports (that would be a serious problem) And be sure the measures are correct and that the 20.28″ realy is the outside width of the monitor.

What is the best and most industrially useful computer programming language for a mechanical engineer?

Question by Intervention: What is the best and most industrially useful computer programming language for a mechanical engineer?
Almost every engineering course in a college/university includes computer programming. I am a second-term mechanical engineer student, and I know next term I will have to submit a computer programming course. I want someone to tell me WHY would a mechanical engineer need computer programming at all, and what is the best and the most useful programming language/software for my course? I do know the most famous ones as far as I am concerned are C++, MATLAB, and FORTRAN — which has already been abandoned, and is now considered old-fashioned. Please Help. I was willing to take a C++ course, but some of my friends are telling me that C++ is NOT a useful programming language for a mechanical engineer.

According to this site:

http://www.hackdigital.com/top-used-computer-languages-in-it-industry/

Although I was hearing a CEO on CNBC talking the other day and he was saying he gave up on hiring programmer’s and engineers because the most useful language to him was PYTHON and he said not enough engineers know it so he was trying to find out how to get more people who knew PYTHON..

This website also lists PYTHON as one of the best:

http://www.stephenfrasier.com/blog/technology-3/best-computer-programming-languages-for-next-decade/

And the reason why you need programming is even more so now than when I was in school, is that all the popular design (Autocad, Solidworks, etc) software is used on a daily basis in most engineering firms and you always seem to need more than the programs offer. So you would be able to like to add to the program or make your own subset calculating design software that is geared exactly to the job you are working on.

For instance I was working on underwater turbine blades for mini hydropower and using the in house design program, didn’t work right because the reynolds numbers didn’t go high enough because the fluid flows of the program were designed for air streams and the dynamics of water are similar, but still quite different from air. So we had to tweak the in house program to incorporate more water dynamic criteria to get the calculations to make any sense.
